The internet was orginally unengrypted because of hardwase limations and with advances in technology and infastructure development. It became viable for network infastructure that is mostly state own by countries at some cost to the energy to state to implement HTTPS which is encrypted contery to its predecessor HTTP that is not.

HTTP was unenencrypted and then became HTTPS; hyper text transmitt protocol secure like most radio and television communications after 2005, the digital switch over!

Now HTTP is flagged in and gives a warning in most web browsers and most social media apps because it is unencrypted! Data that is sent through network instructure that is unencrypted can be intercepted and flagged for tracking! Comment on reddit if you want more info
